0.373 million gutka packets set ablaze at PAMCO’s furnace


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has burnt 373,951 hazardous gutka packets worth more than three million of rupees at the PAMCO’s furnace as per eco-friendly policy in the provincial metropolis on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, PFA Director General Irfan Memon has monitored the gutka set ablaze process. He said that PFA was seized 0.37358 million gutka sachets in raids carried out by the PFA across the province. He said that the authority was confiscated 145,309 packets from Rawalpindi division, 82,720 packets from Faisalabad, 53,610 from Sahiwal, 45,740 from DG Khan, 15,673 from Sheikhupura, 14,900 from Okara, 10,954 from Lahore, 3,914 from Sialkot and 1031 packets from Pakpattan. He said that hazardous gutka is a silent killer for its users and causes fatal diseases.

The director general further said that the sale of gutka was banned after PFA imposed a ban on it in Punjab. He said that PFA is taking strict action to make the Punjab gutka free zone and sealing the premises of those food business operators who are involved in this crime. Irfan Memon further said that the Punjab Food Authority is working with full energy to getting rid of adulteration mafia.
