Dairy safety teams confiscate 1,000 litres tainted milk, 20,000 litres chemicals, 600 kg
banaspati ghee.

Lahore, April 24, 2019: The Punjab Food Authority’s dairy safety teams have caught two
factories producing tainted milk with hazardous chemicals while carrying out a grand
operation in the subpar areas of the Sahiwal and Okara.

The teams have confiscated more than 21,600 litres unwholesome food including 1,000 litres
chemically contaminated milk, 20,000 litres chemicals, 600 kg banaspati ghee and a huge
quantity of raw material. The authority also took into possession mixing machines during the
raids.

PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that tainted milk was being
produced by adding powder, chemical and banaspati ghee in the preparation of milk. He said
that impure milk was supplied in different cities of Punjab especially Lahore through Milk
Collection Centre after preparing. The use of tainted milk is injurious to health and causes
stomach diseases.

Muhammad Usman further said that PFA is doing work to curb the sale of adulterated milk
under the supervision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Sardar
Usman Buzdar. He said that the complete elimination of milk adulteration mafia is a top
priority of PFA. The operation is successfully continued against adulterators across Punjab.
He added that PFA is doing work with full efforts on pasteurization policy by following the
directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The purpose of pasteurization law is to ensure the
provision of quality milk. PFA is trying hard to make strict rules as punishment against the
violators especially adulterators, he added.
