DG PFA checks several food points located along the motorway from Lahore to Islamabad


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday conducted a massive operation to crack down on unhygienic food points on the route of Lahore to Islamabad Motorway.

Food safety teams, under the supervision of Director General PFA Captain (R) Muhammad Usman visited the kitchens of several restaurants for inspecting food safety measures and dealt an iron hand with violators. The restaurants and fast food points were checked in the areas of Bhera, Chakri and Kalar Kahar.

Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that PFA has closed down Simply Sufi Fast Food due to use expiry cooking oil, improper cleanliness arrangements and other violations of PFA Act in the service area of Bhera. He further said that KFC Bhera Franchise was penalized with Rs50,000 fine over failure to maintain the hygiene working environment. As well as vegetable, meat, cold drinks and other food products were preserved together in freezers, he added.

DG PFA said that it is a major responsibility of the PFA to ensure the provision of quality food for commuters who daily visited food points located along the motorway. In this regard, PFA Training School had arranged a training workshop for food business handlers working in the motorway service areas in collaboration with Motorway administration. The purpose of the training workshop was sensitized them about the food safety standards and law. PFA is taking action against those food business operators who are violating the regulation.
