The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) under the supervision of its Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman launched a grand operation against adulterators in Mianwali and Khushab, on Wednesday.
The authority sealed a famous sweet shop, stopped production of two units and confiscate 1,376 kg unwholesome food in 11-hour-long operation Food safety teams seized 864kg substandard snacks, 350kg inferior quality ghee and 180kg germs infested sweets, two mixing machines and five cylinders during the raids.
Muhammad Usman said that food authority closed down a popular shop of sweets (Anwar Dhodha House) in Khushab for using loose colours and adulterated desi ghee in the preparation of dhodha, not taking preventative measures to control pests and failing to meet hygienic working environment. Meanwhile, the team stopped the production of Malik Brothers Sweets and Tangari Unit due to using substandard ingredients by serving an Emergency Prohibition Order (EPO).
In another raid, PFA has imposed EPO on Haji Shafi Tea Store over failure to meet labelling law. He said that the Punjab Food Authority would not sit silently till the elimination of food adulterators and deal with them with an iron hand and show no concession. The director general said that our teams are fully active to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food as well as to make Punjab adulteration free as per the vision of Punjab government.
