Ensuring hygienic food: PFA starts Free “Blood Screening facility” for road side food handlers


January 22, 2018: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) in collaboration with Primary and Secondary Health Care (PSHC) Department kicked off “Free Blood Screening Test” for food sellers in order to facilitate them by giving free facility on their work place and ensure the safe food availability in Punjab under the ‘Healthy Punjab’ mission. Over 400 food workers were screened on first day.

 

Director General PFA Noor ul Amin Mengal has inaugurated the free medical camp that was setup at Moon Market Iqbal Town for collecting blood samples. A large number of cart vendors, food handlers and sellers visited the camp where free medical screening was conducted.

 

Speaking on the occasion, PFA DG Noor ul Amin Mengal said that purpose of this medical screening is to ensure the presence of healthy food on ground level and for the provision of healthy food from safe hands. He said that PFA will allow only healthy food handlers to take part in the food preparation after coming screening results of them.

 

He said that purpose of this initiative was to provide door step facility on the work place of food sellers for which PFA and Health department started this campaign for needy people who can get facility free of cost now. He said that it will be made sure that the person is medically fit and he/she is not affected from any disease and the food is disease free. He said that it is not easy to bear the charges of medical screening for daily wages people. He requested food handlers, cart vendors and needy people related to food business for getting this facility without pay any charges of test.
