Ensuring safe and healthy food; PFA released periodic schedule for sampling, testing of edibles


Punjab Food Authority (PFA) made compulsory sample checking, lab analysis and quality test for edibles several times in a year for edible processors and packagers. While, PFA on Saturday has announced periodic schedule for sampling tests as the processors and packagers will be bound to follow that schedule.

 

PFA Director General Noor ul Amin Mengal said that we taking a step towards completing the Healthy Punjab Mission, in this connection PFA issued an annual schedule of food products checking. He said that new schedule will be applicable to all food products from 2018 which for sampling and laboratory analysis will be done in order to ensure the good quality of food products at market. He further said that all food samples will be collect from market in the presence of company’s officials by following Blind-sampling method.

 

DG further that as a result of this procedure, food products which are in compliance with Punjab Pure Food Regulations 2017 will be registered and issue registration certificates to only and all other food items not registered with Punjab Food Authority shall not be allowed in the market for sale.

 

According to the schedule, ice cream, juice nectar (drink), fruits made beverages and edible ghee and oil products will be checked four times in a year. As well, desserts, toppings, tap water of WASA, carbonated beverages, meat-made items, sauce, squash, fruits and vegetables (canned) will be checked twice in a year. Apart from this, vinger, pickles, malted beverages, will be checked one time in year.
