Illegal slaughtering of ill animals: PFA seals three slaughterhouses & confiscates 3,600 kg meat of emaciated and sick animals


At the dawn of the day, Meat Safety Teams and Vigilance Cell of the Punjab Food Authority jointly carried out an operation against illegal slaughterhouses and sealed three premises in the provincial metropolis, on Sunday.

During the operation, enforcement teams have seized 3,600 kilograms of substandard and poor quality meat and later discarded.

PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that illegal slaughterhouses were shut in the area of Bakar Mandi, Allama Iqbal Town and at Chundri Road. He said that emaciated and sick animals were being slaughtered for getting meat which had to supply on the local butcher shops in the subpar areas of the city. PFA has also discovered poor hygiene issues, unavailability of record, not to adopt a proper system for blood drainage and failed to produce medical certificates of its workers. He further said that PFA has registered cases against the four accused in the different police stations of the city which involved in the illegally slaughtering.

Moreover, DG said that PFA in collaboration with concerned departments will bring a policy to ensure the provision of quality and healthy meat in Punjab. He added that PFA is also considering to establish a meat vigilance cell by taking on board to all other department’s representatives for the elimination of illegal slaughterhouses from Punjab. Captain (R) Muhammad Usman will meet with the officials of PAMCO for policy making on it on Monday (tomorrow).
