In a province-wide crackdown: PFA seals five kulfi production units


On the directions of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman, food safety teams under the supervision of food safety officers crackdown held on substandard Kulfi production units throughout the province, on Saturday.

In Lahore, the authority has shut total five production units for not complying with its instructions.

According to details, the authority has sealed two production units of a famous kulfi shop “Baba G Kulfi” on 60 Foot Road and at Multan Road. As well as, teams closed down the production units of Al-Makah Kulfi House, Baba Kulfi and Badami Kulfi in the various areas of the provincial metropolis. It is pertinent to mention here that several sites were found closed at the time of raids like Baba Fareed, Jhola Lal, Chashni Sweets and other food businesses. These sites would be checked in next raids.

Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that all food sites were sealed for using artificial flavours and adulterated milk in the preparation of Kulfi which is not fit for human consumption due to contamination of unhygienic and banned ingredients in it. He said that poor quality Khoya and powder milk was also being used in it in the name of fresh milk and Khoya (It is made of either dried whole milk). He warned all food business operators who are associated with kulfi business to ensure the quality of Kulfi as per the standards of PFA Regulations, otherwise, strict action would be taken against them. He said that citizens should to purchase products from trustworthy place. Punjab Food Authority is fully committed to ensure the provision of hygiene and quality food in Punjab as per “Healthy Punjab” mission, he added.
