Operating food business without license will result in upto 1 year jail, five hundred thousand fine


Punjab Food Authority Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman directed the authority to tighten grip around the food business operators (FBOs) who are running their businesses without getting food licenses in Punjab. He also directed authority to bring the unlicensed FBOs in the circle of license as soon.

He has issued these directions while chairing a meeting at his office for taking a review of the PFA Licensing Wing. Additional Director General Resources Shahid Anayyat Malik has briefed DG about the progress and issues of its wing.

Captain (R) Muhammad Usman informed that around 200,000 people are associated with food business throughout Punjab among 60,000 food operators have been got food license. He said that the purpose of the issuing of food license is to restrict FBOs to follow the PFA rules and regulation along with ensuring the provision of quality food in Punjab as per “Healthy Punjab” mission under its slogans “From Farm to Fork”. He urged that to enlarge the circle of licensing nook and corner of Punjab. He directed officials to take strict action against unlicensed FBOs.

DG said that whoever (unlicensed FBOs) contravenes provisions of PFA Act shall be punishable with imprisonment up to one year or fine up to Rs500,000”. He directed to complete the new recruitment for fully functional licensing wing in Punjab. Moreover, PFA will be consultation with the industry while making more broad and clear license categories, Usman added.
