OPs for fat rendering units is under consideration of Punjab Food Authority


To control the wicked practice of fat rendering units, the comprehensive guidelines and standard operating procedures for them is under consideration of Punjab Food Authority. In this regard, PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman has chaired the meeting at his office on Tuesday.

DG Muhammad Usman said that it is compulsory for fat rendering units to get a license from PFA which to be issued them after complete verification. He said that they will maintain the complete record of traceability that should include receiving of all material from where it was bought. Invoice, delivery slips must carry name, location and contact details of the seller. He further said that after conversion of fat into oil a dye (metanil) will be added to make it unfit for human consumption. He further said that any discard material will be weighted and stored separately. Wile, proper disposal mechanism should be in place with pictorial evidence of each discard. He added that the oil can be given to PFA license holder. He said that the oil product will be transported in clearly market containers showing the detail of production unit, name and address on it. Fat rendering unit and licensee to whom product was sold for a non-edible purpose only. DG said that PFA will take strict action and cancel the licence of the violators in case of non-compliance with the instructions of the food regulatory body. PFA is making a comprehensive and integrated policy on it in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department.
