Over 4,915 liter adulterated milk disposed off by PFA

On the directions of Punjab Food Authority Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman, dairy safety teams have carried out a special drive against milkmen to control the sale of adulterated milk across Punjab here on Saturday.

Enforcement teams have placed screening pickets at the entry and exit points of each city early morning. During the drive, the authority has disposed of a total 4,915 litres adulterated milk and foiled an attempt to supply of thousands of litres impure milk in the market.

Muhammad Usman said that PFA tested 285,029 litres milk that was loaded on 2013 milk vehicles. He said that dairy safety teams have checked 1,017 vehicles in Lahore Zone, 632 vehicles in Rawalpindi and 364 vehicles in South Punjab. He said that urea, formalin, polluted water, harmful powder and chemicals were used to increase the thickness and quantity of milk. The use of such adulterated ingredients in milk poses a serious threat to the users’ health while causing diseases along with creating hurdles in the growth of children. DG further said that pasteurizing is the only solution to eliminate the sale of loose milk and its adulteration, for which authority doing work day and night to execute the pasteurization law by 2022.

He appealed the public to report any suspicious activities related to food adulteration and unhygienic food points on PFA Facebook Page and Toll-Free number 1223, pointing out that all the information received will be kept strictly confidential to protect the privacy of informers.
