As many as 1,838 food stalls in 94 Ramadan bazaars were inspected by the food safety teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) as it continued its food inspection drive over the directions of Chief Minister Punjab, Usman Buzdar. Director General, PFA, Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that food safety teams have visited 43 makeshift markets in Lahore Zone, 29 in Rawalpindi, 17 in Multan and five in Muzaffargarh Zone, on Monday. So far, Punjab Food Authority has been checked 13,274 small and big stalls in the first seven days of the holy month of Ramadan. During the inspection, the authority has discarded 172kg inferior fruits and 226kg rotten vegetables. Meanwhile, food safety teams warned 114 food outlets, asking them to improve hygienic conditions. Muhammad Usman said that food authority is checking Ramadan Bazaars on a regular basis in order to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food for the public. In this connection, PFA in collaboration with concerne administration working with full efforts. He has requested citizens to let know PFA in case of witnessing the presence of poor quality food at stalls. PFA is checking the open markets round the clock besides Ramadan Bazaars whereas authority has increased the number of inspection teams for its intended purpose.
