PFA disposes of 10,000 litre contaminated milk

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday foiled an attempt to supply thousands of litre chemically contaminated milk which was being carried on a tanker from Kasur to Lahore.
Acting on the tip-off provided by the informer, the PFA confiscated 10,000 litres thick liquid of adulterated milk by placing picket under the supervision of PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman. He said that PFA’s dairy teams have taken milk samples for a screening test on the spot and took action against milk supplier over found results not up to the mark. He said that teams also raided a factory located at Wah Kharan Village in Kasur and confiscated hazardous powder, ghee, chemicals and other raw material which were being used in the preparation of impure milk. He said that accused Shafiq Bhatti fled away from the spot before reaching PFA team. He said that this thick liquid was supplied to local milk sellers in the different areas of Lahore and sold to customers after adding water in it.
The use of tainted milk poses a threat to users’ health. He further said that the execution of pasteurization law is the only solution to ensure the provision of milk free from any contamination in Punjab. PFA will give a gift to Lahories to start pasteurization pilot project from Lahore for which we are doing a survey of different areas of the metropolitan city. Punjab Food Authority is fully committed to bring down the wicked practice of milk adulteration, upon the directions of Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. The sale of unpacked/loose milk will be banned after enacting pasteurisation law by 2022, he added.
