PFA disposes of 6,600 liter tainted milk, unearths three illegal slaughterhouses and confiscates 3,800kg unhealthy meat


Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has launched a city-wide drive against adulterated and substandard milk whereas discarded 6,600 litres tainted milk here on Monday.

Dairy Safety Teams (DSTs) of PFA under the supervision of veterinary specialists have checked as many as 35,000 litres milk by placing screening pickets on the entry points of the city at early morning. While, PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman has paid visits to various pickets and monitored the activities of field teams.

On the occasion, Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that officials have seized overall 6,600 litres adulterated milk and foiled an attempt to supply of it in the market being carried on 32 vehicles from surrounding areas of the city. He said that PFA disposed of the confiscated milk over proved contamination of powder, formalin, chemicals, surf and polluted water in it. He said that adulterated items were added for the purpose of thickness and to increase the quantity of milk. He further said that teams disposed of all adulterated milk due to not come positive results of milk samples which were taken on the spot. DG said that chemical and powder contaminated milk is unfit for human consumption and become causes of health diseases. He further said that PFA has accelerated the operation against them to bring down wicked practice of milk adulteration in Punjab.

On the other hands, PFA has unearthed three illegal slaughterhouses and discarded 95 maunds poor quality meat of sick animals while carrying out raids in the area of Bakar Mandi and Pak Town. Upon the information of PFA vigilance cell, a special operation was launched against them at 3pm.

DG informed that PFA sealed two slaughterhouse in Bakarmandi and other one in Ali Colony Pak Town. He said that PFA also discovered poor hygiene issues besides of unhealthy meat. Slaughterhouses were also failed to produce record and to adopt a proper system for blood drainage. He further said that PFA has registered a case against Javed Goga Meat Service in the respective area police station on account of run illegally slaughterhouse. He said that meat of emaciated animals is health-fatal for human and causes of several diseases. He informed that PFA is doing work to establish a task force by taking on board to all other department’s representatives to ensure the provision of quality and healthy meat in Punjab. He added that availability of healthy food including meat is a prime responsibility of PFA for which all necessary steps are being taken by the authority.
