PFA disposes of 8,636 litre adulterated milk in Punjab


As many as 8,636 litres adulterated milk was disposed of by dairy safety teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) while carrying a crackdown to control the sale of tainted milk across Punjab.

A special crackdown was made on the directions of PFA Director General Irfan Memon. The teams have inspected 280,335 litres milk by placing screening pickets early morning at the entry and exit points of the different cities of the province. The teams have inspected checked 907 milk-supplying vehicles in Lahore Zone, 485 in Rawalpindi, 121 in Multan and 49 in Muzaffargarh Zone. DG has visited the different barricades in Lahore and reviewed the arrangements and milk screening process.

The director general said that the purpose of the inspection was to ensure the supply of pure milk at every nook and corner of Punjab as per the vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan and Punjab government. PFA’s dairy teams have taken milk samples for screening test on the spot and took action against 157 milk sellers over found their milk sample results not up to the mark. He informed that PFA had disposed of only 4,399 litres milk loaded on 92 milk vehicles.

Irfan Memon further said that authority disposed of milk over proved contamination of harmful chemicals, powder, urea and water which used for increasing the thickness and quantity of milk. He said that the use of tainted milk adulterated is posing a threat to the users’ health epically children. He said that PFA’s teams are inspected milk carrier vehicles on a daily basis. The top priority of PFA is to ensure the provision of adulterated-free milk for the public.
