PFA fails 153 water filtration plants for not meeting standards


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has released the water screening results of phase 2, while 153 water filtration plants failed over multiple violations of the PFA regulations.

According to the details, 1063 water filtration plants have been sampled across Punjab among 800 water filtration plants declared passed and 105 water plants failed on false labeling. Meanwhile, the water of 82 plants was found substandard in Lahore Zone, 186 in Rawalpindi, 32 in Multan and seven in Muzaffargarh.

The authority has uploaded the complete list of the water sampling campaign result on the website of Punjab Food Authority for the public interest. PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that production of failed plants has been suspended until the companies improve their standards and meet the SOPs given by PFA. He said that non-compliant plants will be resampled and sent for analysis after improving the standards.

He further said that permission for production would not be granted until their samples are “passed”. Muhammad Usman said that the water plants which has passed the screening test of PFA have been directed to place lab results on a prominent place. According to the sampling schedule 2019, water samples would be analysed four times in a year as well as surprise checking. DG PFA added that water safety teams are working day and night for the provision of healthy and safe water. Lastly, DG PFA stated that the reason for regular checking of the water plant to ensure the facility of healthy and clean drinking water to the general public at their doorstep.
