PFA grand anti-adulteration operation in Sahiwal division


The Punjab Food Authority has launched a grand operation against food adulterators in Harapa, Kamaliya, Sahiwal and Okara here on Thursday. The purpose of the operation was to control the wicked practice of adulteration and to ensure the provision of healthy and safe food in Punjab.
PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that PFA’s vigilance cell and PFA special operations teams have intercepted a truck by foiling a bid to supply thousands of litres tainted milk in Kamalia. He said that teams have disposed of 25,000 litres confiscated milk over proved contamination of formalin, urea, starch, surf and polluted water in it. PFA has registered a case against accused in the respective police station. He said that food authority is doing work with the greatest possible efforts to control the elimination of milk adulteration as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The director general further said that PFA also unearthed two khoya units involved in the preparation of adulterated khoya in Harapa. The khoya units were being prepared with banaspati ghee, powder and hazardous chemicals which use injurious to consumer health. Meanwhile, all prepared khoya had preserved in non-food grade drums. Muhammad Usman informed that PFA confiscated 80kg substandard banaspati ghee, 100kg adulterated khoya, blue drums, and a freezer during the raid.
A team of PFA also shut down a factory manufacturing plastic bottles by using non-food grade preform plastic in it. The team also found the issues of mislabeling and unavailability of records. DG further said that food business operators can use only food grade plastic bottles for food products. The provincial food regulatory body is taking all necessary steps to root out the adulteration, he said and added that PFA will make Punjab’s land narrow for adulterators.
