PFA inks MoU with nine universities, plans to train over two hundred thousand students food safety ambassadors and internship program


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with nine well-known public and private universities of Punjab to promote the importance of nutrition. PFA in collaboration with the universities will also offer food & nutrition plans to conduct joint awareness and research activities.

A MoU ceremony was held at PFA Headquarter under the presence of Food Minister Samiullah Chaudhry.

On the occasion, PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman briefed the vice chancellors, rectors, principals and Head of Departments about the purpose of MoU and nutrition plans. PFA and universities will jointly hold number of activities including awareness programs, student ambassador program, joint research programs, internship opportunities and utilization of faculty in content development.

The PFA has inked with the Punjab University, University of Lahore, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Noor International University, Kinnaird College For Women, Imperial College for Business Studies, Lahore College For Women University, Allama Iqbal Open University and Gulab Devi Institute.

As many as 200,000 students will be appointed as ambassador of PFA in the nine respective educational institutions after giving awareness to them about diet and nutrition, DG said and added that PFA will also offer internships to the nutritional students. He said that PFA will take help universities faculty in the field of research and healthy discussion. Moreover, PFA to conduct modern research on nutrition and food along with arranged field studies for students on different food topics.

Usman asked suggestions to improve this food sector and directed officials of the authority to ensure the implementation on it as soon as possible. In the first phase, PFA will bring the enrolled students of the concerned universities in the PFA awareness circle while in next phase, PFA will include students of private and public schools, he added.

The representatives of the universities have appreciated the PFA’s initiative in order to aware people of this nation about nutrition and food. They also assured to continue their cooperation and coordination with PFA in future.At the end, Minister for Food Samiullah Chaudhry presented a souvenir to the heads of universities.
