The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Meat Safety Teams have sealed 31 meat sale points in different districts of Punjab on the first day of field work after functional in order to keep control the sale of dead meat, substandard chicken and other meat related issues here on Saturday.

 

According to details, Meat Safety Teams (MSTs) sealed four meat sale points in Lahore, five in Rawalpindi, three in Multan and two each in Gujranwala and Faisalabad for selling sick, emaciated and dead chicken meat to citizens.

 

PFA Director General Noor ul Amin Mengal said that MSTs have been established especially to overcome the meat / chicken related issues and ensure the sale of healthy chicken on shops. He said that MSTs have established on district levels which have been operational in across the Punjab. He said that teams will depute to monitor the meat issues and report to headquarter on daily basis about their daily performance.

 

Mengal said that veterinary specialties recruited in MST instead of food sciences specialists for getting better result. Meat Safety Teams will not only check chicken sale points in markets but also monitor slaughterhouse on regular basis.

 

Meat shops were sealed due to not adopting cone slaughtering system, use of dirty water and blue drums, and other multiple poor food hygiene issues, he added.
