PFA & PAMCO to form joint vigilance team to unearth illegal abattoirs and to control the sale of unhealthy meat


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) and Punjab Agriculture & Meat Company (PAMCO) agreed to make a joint enforcement team to control the sale and purchase of sick, emaciated and unhygienic chicken meat, beef and mutton along with the elimination of illegal slaughterhouses in Punjab.

The team will take help of district administration, livestock and other concerned departments to make more efficient the drive against butchers which to be started as soon after establishing joint steam. This was decided in a meeting with the officials of PEMCO, held at PAMCO center.

On the occasion, DG Captain (R) Muhammad Usman has visited PAMCO Centre and witnessed the slaughtering process. He also reviewed the cleanliness arrangement, medical facility for animals and other facilities at centre. Incharge PAMCO Dr Tajamal briefed DG Muhammad Usman about the progress of its PAMCO.

PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman directed ADG Operations Rafia Haider to prepare a comprehensive policy on it and ink MoU with all departments that to be part of the team. He said that to ensure the provision of health meat it’s a responsibility of the authority for which PFA is taking all necessary steps. He further said that a joint enforcement team will take strict action against illegal slaughterhouses after unearthing them which are running unlawful in the streets. He said that citizens should purchase meat from reliable shops because of the meat of emaciated and sick animal causes of health diseases. He has appealed citizens to inform PFA on its helpline and complaint cell about illegal abattoirs.
