PFA’s water sampling drive continues, seals two water filtration plants


On the orders of the Supreme Court, a special drive of water sampling is continued vigorously by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) across Punjab. In this connection, PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman has directed all teams to complete the task within the time period which was given by the Apex Court.

On Thursday, food safety teams sealed two water filtration plants over the worst condition of the hygiene and caught red-handed food business operators to sell below standard water when teams had visited sites for collecting the water samples.

DG said that the purpose of the campaign is to examine the quality of water through lab tests for which water samples are being collected from the plants of bottled water companies and filtration plants. He further said that in the light of laboratory report, indiscriminate action would be taken against filtration plants by immediately close plants which results will not satisfy.

According to details, a team of PFA sealed Smart Flow water plant, located at Al-Rehman Garden Phase 4, over failed to produce medicals and food license, unavailability of Lab tests and due to poor sanitation system. In addition, PFA team raided Smart Water in Razwan Garden and sealed it over non-compliance with the authority’s instructions, preserved products on foot level and for failing water samples.

Moreover, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has conducted a massive operation to crack down on unhygienic food points and production units in the provincial metropolis and penalized food business operators. PFA imposed Rs10,000 fine on Pharmagen Water at Multan Road on the basis of open drains, for washing bottles in the shop premises, not adopted Integrated pest management system and improper cleanliness arrangements. Further, teams imposed a heavy fine on Super milk shops, sweet shops and other food points for violating the rules of the PFA Act.

A huge quantity of substandard and harmful food products was discarded by the authority. The PFA also served notices for improvement on hundreds of food points in a daylong operation.
