PFA seals fake ketchup and sauces factory in Lahore


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed a factory producing adulterated spices and sauces of popular brands in the provincial metropolis here on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the team has confiscated more than 2,000kg unwholesome food during the special raid conducted.

PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that the food safety team on the tip-off vigilance raided the Imami Ketchup & Sauces factory in the area of Wagha Town and caught them red-handed manufacturing food products by using the labels of some famous brands. However, the wrong address was mentioned on the packing of ready products. He said that sauces were being prepared by using artificial sweeteners, saccharine, loose colours and chemicals. It’s pertinent to mention here the chemically contaminated sauces were also preserved in the non-food graded drums which use strictly prohibited as per the food regulations. The raiding team recovered 1,800kg adulterated ketchup and sauces, 150kg starch, eight kilograms loose colours and chemicals. Besides, the teams also served warning notices for improvement to International Egg Traders and Bilal Super Egg Traders in Shalimar Town.

Meanwhile, PFA Chairman Umer Tanvir Butt said that there is no place for adulteration mafia in Punjab and we make this land narrow for adulteration mafia for them by rooting out there unlawful businesses. The authority will allow only those food business operators who follow the rules and regulations of Punjab Food Authority.
