PFA seals four businesses selling adulterated food in Lahore and Kasoor


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) crackdown continued against those preparing unhygienic food and causing health diseases. On Thursday, PFA closed down four food businesses and discarded approximately 2,300 kilograms of unwholesome food.

According to details, PFA teams raided Shareef Milk Point and Malik Chiller Unit in Kundiyan and Bhogiwal area respectively, sealed both premises for violating the rules of the PFA Act. PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that fake milk was being produced by using chemicals, urea, formalin and hazardous powder. Teams have found the richness of insects, poor storage system, use of rusty machinery along with workers of the units did not have medical certificates. He informed that PFA has seized 1,000 litres chemical contaminated milk and a huge quantity of adulterated material during raids. PFA has registered FIRs against the owners in the nearest area as per law. Usman said that the use of adulterated milk is injurious to health especially for children.

In addition, a team of PFA raided Shell Foods, located at Muridke, and sealed it for using rotten fruits and vegetables, rancid oil and substandard quality spices. He said that the PFA has confiscated 1,100 kilograms pickles, non-food grade colour and chemicals during raid, later discarded. Apart from that, Golden Kulfi was shut by PFA for producing substandard quality kulfies in Lori Ada Mandi, Kundiyan. He informed that artificial flavours and adulterated milk used in the preparation of kulfies. Team discarded 50 kilograms poor quality kuflies and 20 kilograms of raw material.
