The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday sealed seven oil extracting units and confiscated 16,600 liters oil while carrying out a special crackdown against them in the provincial metropolis.
On the tip-off of the Vigilance Cell, special teams comprised of food safety officers and other officials were raided and caught them red-handed. PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that oil was being produced by extracting oil from the fat and filth of animals. He said that raiding teams have seized 39 fully filled drums with fat, 36 big saucepans (karahay) and 154 blue drums.
According to details, PFA has sealed Abdul Hameed, Naeem, Naveed, Hamid, Suni Khurram, Imran and Tariq fat rendering units in the area of Double Sarkan (roads). The director general said that PFA has unearthed these units after reconnaissance of supply the chain of oil at shops of the city. He said that the use of such oil is injurious to health and causes of fatal diseases and environment pollution. He said that oil was supplied in the market after mixing in the used cooking oil. DG further said that PFA handed over all confiscated oil to bio-diesel companies because rancid oil only could be used in the preparation of bio-diesel according to PFA regulations. Punjab Food Authority will fail their all counterfeiting and chicanery of adulteration mafia, he added.
