PFA seals three illegal slaughterhouses, meat chiller, fat rendering unit in Bakar Mandi


The Punjab Food Authority on Thursday foiled an attempt by the enemy of people health to supply 4,300 kilograms meat of sick and emaciated animals in the market. While, the meat safety team sealed three illegal slaughterhouses, meat chiller, and fat rendering unit during conducted raids on the tipoff by PFA’s Vigilance cell.
PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman has led the operation in the area of Bakar Mandi Old Slaughterhouse. He said that butchers were doing business illegally despite sealed their slaughterhouses earlier by the PFA. He also said that they were stamped the substandard meat with special ink and marking the meat as legal as well as fit for human consumption, however, grounder reality was totally different. He said that the accused fled away on seeing the Punjab Food Authority.
The director general further said as many as 4,300kg meat and 8,000kg animal’s filth was discarded at the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO). He said that the provincial food regulatory body is taking strict action against the butchers who involved in bad practice. He further said that the use of unhealthy and substandard meat is injurious to health and causes several diseases for consumers. Muhammad Usman said that Punjab Food Authority is doing work vigilantly to unearth the illegal slaughterhouses in every nook and corner of the province. He mentioned that the provision of healthy meat for the public is included in the top priority list of PFA. People can report a complaint on PFA Facebook Page and Toll-Free number 1223, he added.
