The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday sealed a spice factory on account of adulteration while conducting a raid upon the tipoff of the vigilance cell in the area of Sabzazar.
The operation was held under the supervision of PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman. PFA’s raiding team confiscated more than 31,620 kilograms impure food including 15,000 kg prepared chilli, 4,000 kg turmeric, 10,000 kg raw material, 1,620 kg corn, 1,000 bran and other adulterated goods.
Muhammad Usman said that authority shut down factory over proved contamination of fodder hay, corn and bran in the preparation of chilli. He said that the authority not only sealed shop but also rooted out the grinding and packing machines from the site. Moreover, PFA seized label and other equipment during the raid. He said that a stock of tainted chilli and turmeric was being prepared for upcoming Ramadan after packing with different brand names. He said that PFA is fully active and taking action against adulterators to ensure the provision of healthy and pure food during the Ramadan as per the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. Following the directions, PFA increased the number of vigilance teams across Punjab. The director general said that PFA is taking all necessary measures to eliminate the menace of adulteration from Punjab.
