PFA to collect cooking oil & ghee samples twice in a year


The Punjab Food Authority will collect cooking oil and ghee samples two times in a year for laboratory test.

This was unanimously decided in a meeting during held between Punjab Food Authority and Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA), on Friday. On the occasion, Minister for Food Samiullah Chaudhry was also present. The result of laboratory test will be published for public interest as per law.

On the occasion, PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that PFA will stop the production of all those brands who will not meet the food safety standards in the laboratory test. He said that all brands will be bound to remove their stock from market within 24 hours in case of failing their samples in laboratory results. He added that the provincial food regulatory will discard all stock in case of failure to remove the stock from market. He further said that the production of failed brands to be reopened after re-analysis their samples and ensuring proper reforms. DG further said that the company will have the right to appeal in case of any reservations on the sampling results.

Minister for Food has appreciated the initiatives of PFA for bringing reform and improvement in the food industry. He said that PFA will provide complete guidance to everyone for improving their standards. He said that the government is utilizing all available resources to meet the international standards of food.
