PFA to introduce security ink recognition system on food packaging for trace-ability of fake items

Provincial food regulatory body, on Tuesday, has planned to introduce the currency note inks for the recognition of fake and real food items in the market. DG Punjab Food Authority met with the delegation of International Labelling Security Company regarding the implementation of the aforementioned plan, at PFA Headquarters in provincial metropolis.

While chairing the meeting, DG PFA Captain (R) Muhammad Usman Younis urged that it is a dire need of the time to introduce an authentic system through which fake and real food items can be segregated in the market. This modern system of making food product labels with machine readable currency note inks will help in the accurate traceability and proper check and balance of food products. Refill policy of the 19-litre water bottle was also discussed during the meeting. Further he stated that in Dubai, 19-litre water bottle can only be refilled 70 times for the drinking purposes. The machine readable code gets updated every time the bottle is refilled. These codes allow the consumer to verify online the number of times a bottle has been previously filled. Excessive use of water bottles allow the chemical seepage into the drinkable water. PFA has already promulgated the refill policy of the 19-litre water bottles in the Food Packaging Regulations. DG PFA maintained that PFA is currently working on this modern system of coding the food packages according to this system.
