PFA unearths illegal milk unit, confiscates 6,600kg substandard food


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has busted adulterated milk production gang and lodged an FIR against them in the nearest police station here on Friday. The team confiscated 6,600kg adulterated ingredients including milk powder during the raid.

Acting on the tipoff, the food safety team under the supervision of PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman has conducted a raid on the unit functional in the house at Township area and caught them red-handed producing milk powder. Muhammad Usman said that milk powder was being produced by adding contamination of wheat flour and glucose in it, while thousands of litres milk were to be produced with substandard and fake milk powder. He further said that expired skimmed milk and powder supplied to different local shops after packing in the popular brands packaging. He said that raid was conducted on the information of PFA Vigilance Cell after day and night surveillance. PFA watchdog team seized 6,000kg milk powder, 450kg wheat flour, 125kg glucose and 25kg citric acid.

The director general further said that the Punjab Food Authority is vigilantly monitoring every food business operator in order to ensure the provision of healthy and hygienic food in Punjab. He added that the execution of pasteurization law has become the need of the hour for the availability of adulterated-free milk. Adulteration mafia and forgers would be dealt with an iron hand, DG said.
