8,360 litre harmful oil smuggling bid foiled in Lahore: PFA
The Punjab Food Authority has caught a truck with thousands of litres harmful oil by holding a picket at Band Road on Saturday.
PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said on a tip-off, authority stopped a truck (LES 177) and seized 8,360 litres oil extracted from animal’s wastes. He said that oil was concealed in the drums which unearthed during the search of the vehicle. Meanwhile, PFA has lodged an FIR against the accused, Abdul Hameed Kamboh, in the Muslim Town Police Station, after handed over to police. The director general said that this harmful oil was supplied to hotels and nimko factories, however, use of such oil strictly prohibited in the preparation of any food products according to the Punjab Pure Food Regulations 2018. He further said that extracted oil from animal fat could only be used in biodiesel because of the use of such oil causes of health diseases for consumers.
Following the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, a grand operation has continued in Punjab against the food adulteration despite the massive reaction by the adulterators. He said that PFA will turn Punjab into a no-go area for adulterators as per the vision of Punjab Government.
