Two-day awareness seminar on fortification kicks off for oil and ghee industry


Punjab Food Authority held an awareness seminar on fortification for oil and ghee industry at local hotel here on Monday. Director General PFA Captain (R) Muhammad Usman was the chief guest on the occasion.

As many as 32 representatives of oil and ghee mills have participated in the seminar. While, nutrition experts (Dr. Ijaz, Dr. Yasin and Project Manager Gain Faiz Rasool) have shed light on the importance of food fortification and its various aspects. A detailed briefing was also given regarding the work of Punjab food authority in the seminar.

Addressing with the participants of the seminar, DG Food Authority highlighted the significance of food fortification and framework of food regulatory body. He said that the purpose of this program was to maintain food nutrition, proportionate contents of food and to address high rates of micronutrient deficiencies in Punjab. He further said that more than 44 percent population of Punjab is suffering from lack of proper nutrition while PFA is taking all necessary steps to control the nutritional deficiency. He added that we can control it if we add essential nutrition ingredients in salt, oil, ghee, flour and other food products. The food fortification programme is a source of completion of health Punjab mission of PFA. He has also appreciated the cooperation of oil and ghee industry in the regard of fortification programe.

PFA Additional Director General (Operations) Rafia Haider also responded to questions related to industry issues. Shields were also presented to guests at the end of the first day of the two-day seminar.
