Workshop held on “Tobacco Free Zone” at PFA Headquarter


The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has completed all preparations to make PFA Headquarter smoke-free. In this connection, Ministry of National Health Service Regulations and Coordination Department held a one-day workshop on “Tobacco Free Zone” here on Tuesday.
Project Coordinator and DG Health Dr. Minhaj us Siraj gave a detailed briefing on the topic of smoke-free citizens and law as well as the project of Punjab Government titled “Tobacco Smoke-Free Cities”. The purpose of the workshop was to introduce this project to food business operators. He has given awareness regarding the effects of smoking on the health of human. He said that the purpose of the smoke-free zone is to keep away citizens (non-smokers) from the consequences of cigarette. DG Health further said that the Punjab Food Authority will play a vital role to ensure the implementation of this project.
Speaking on the occasion, PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman directed officials to prepare recommendations in order to make smoke-free zone at food points. It is pertinent to mention here that PFA had been already imposed a ban on smoking in the food production area. He said that smoking is the leading cause of health diseases. At the end, certificates were distributed among the officers.
