World Food Safety Day observed


The World Food Safety Day (WFSD) was observed under the theme “Food Safety, everyone’s business” in Pakistan Council of  Scientific and Industrial  Research (PCSIR) on Monday.

Punjab Food Authority, Director General retired Captain Muhammad has participated as the Guest of  Honour at the event which  arranged in  connection to  celebrate the WFSD. On the  occasion, PCSIR Director General Dr Quratulain Syed, Lab Head  Dr Ijaz Ahmed, Head of  Regulatory and Scientific  Affairs Dr Farhat Jameel, Country  Manager of  Islamic Food and  Nutrition  Council  of America Dr Javed Aziz and people from different walks of life were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Usman, said Punjab Food Authority is doing work day and night in order to meet the  international  standards. He  said that PFA  has taken  strict actions and decisions for the safety of the public health as its the utmost priority of PFA. In this connection, PFA has introduced 16 new food regulations to ensure the provision of healthy and safe food as per the vision of Punjab Government.

He said that PFA has divided all those food items  into three categories which are being sold in the schools. He added that PFA forbade the sale of coloured  snacks and  unhealthy cola,  carbonated and  energy drinks at  schools’ canteens in order to protect the  bones of our future  (children)  and saved them from cancer and other fatal diseases. He further said that PFA has introduced the Food Packaging 2018 to make certain availability of adulteration-free food in the market as per standards of the provincial food regulatory body.

 

The director general further said that PFA is also  utilizing all  available  resources to  ensure the provision of  pasteurized milk at the door of the consumers and to make  Lahore  as a  model city before the execution pasteurization law. He said that PFA is also giving awareness to the  public about hygiene along with the elimination of adulteration from Punjab while public  awareness is a part of Punjab  Food  Authority’s mission. The  authority is also following the  guidelines of  Prime Minister Imran Khan to overcome the malnutrition issues, he added.
